How To Minimize Injuries In A Car Accident | Atlanta Personal Injury Attorney

Unfortunately, regardless of how alert and aware you try to be as a driver, accidents are bound to happen.  It’s definitely a nuisance when you are involved in an accident that wasn’t your fault, but luckily, it’s possible to minimize your injuries.

Here are a couple of tips:

  • Wear a seat belt.  It doesn’t matter if you’re headed just down the road, it’s important that you ALWAYS wear a seat belt.  Seat belt use is one of the most effective way to keep you safe in your vehicle.  In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts saved over 75,000 lives from 2004-2008.
  • Don’t keep heavy objects in your car.  Of course, there will always be exceptions to this because part of the plus side of owning a vehicle is that you can move heavy objects from one place to another.  But, it’s important to keep in mind because bulky and weighty objects that are loose in the car can will cause a severe impact in the case of a collision.
  • Pick a safe car.  Obviously, no one wants a particularly dangerous car, and the people who build automobiles have to follow certain guidelines so that the vehicle is reasonably safe.  However, depending on what your vehicle is for, you may want to check the safety ratings of the vehicle you’re looking to purchase before you take the plunge.  For example, if you’re looking for a minivan for your family or a company car for your employees, you may want to look into the safety ratings a little more seriously.
